There are many causes for erectile dysfunction, this can include medical reasons, age, stress factors, lifestyle, inadequate rest, or smoking and alcohol. In some of these circumstances, patients can make some changes to combat these effects. In certain circumstances, lifestyle changes alone may be inadequate, and treatment using medicines may be considered. In all cases, reducing risk factors by making lifestyle modifications should accompany treatment using ED medication.
Levitra is a relatively fast-acting erectile dysfunction medicine with its effects potentially working after 25 minutes. It belongs to a family of medicines called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE) inhibitors. PDE inhibitors are medicines that prevent the phosphodiesterase enzyme from breaking down the messengers responsible for the relaxation of smooth muscle and therefore widening of blood vessels in the penis when stimulated. This dilation improves blood circulation and increases blood flow which therefore leads to a better erection.
This group of medication is commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction, and there are other different drugs within this group such as Viagra (Sildenafil), Cialis (Tadalafil), and Spedra (Avanafil). Although Levitra is only licensed to treat ED, other drugs within this group can be used to treat conditions such as certain types of high blood pressure. It is therefore used with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease and heart failure or hypotension (low blood pressure).
Generic Vardenafil is like Levitra in terms of its mechanism of action while being significantly cheaper. Therefore, you should notice no difference between the effects of these two treatments.
Vardenafil which is the active drug in Levitra is also available as a 10 mg orodispersible tablet. This may help those with swallowing difficulties. It may also suit patients who do not want the effects of a heavy or high-fat meal to interfere with the rate of absorption of the drug. The generic orodispersible variation is available under Vardenafil, the brand Levitra is no longer available in an orodispersible tablet. As the orodispersible tablet only comes in one strength, patients may wish to increase the strength to 20 mg by doubling up on the tablet. Alternatively, if the 10 tablet is too strong, the dose may be halved to 5mg.
Dosage
- There are now only two strengths of Levitra available: 10 mg and 20 mg tablets.
- When taken with high-fat foods, the drug’s rate of absorption decreases, which may delay the desired effect.
- The effects of Levitra can last 4-5 hours.
- Levitra should not be taken by anyone under the age of eighteen or by those who experience no trouble in achieving an erection.
Side Effects of using Levitra
As with all medications, Levitra can have unpleasant side effects. The most common of these are:
- Headaches
- Nasal congestion
- Flushing
- Gastrointestinal discomfort
These side effects are not cause for great concern and should last only a short time.

How long will it take Levitra to work?
Levitra tablets should begin to work within 25-60 minutes. Sexual stimulation is needed for Vardenafil to be fully effective. If you eat a large meal before taking Levitra tablets, the effects may be delayed.
How long will the effects of Levitra last?
The effects of Levitra last for approximately 4-5 hours. You will still require sexual stimulation for the medicine to work.
Why are the doses of Levitra low?
Levitra is a potent medicine hence why it has lower doses than some other ED medicines.
Can I drink alcohol with Levitra?
As with most erectile dysfunction (ED) medication, alcohol can increase the chances of hypotension (low blood pressure) while increasing your heart rate. It can cause excessive dizziness and fainting. Alcohol is also a contributing factor to erectile dysfunction.
Can I drink grapefruit juice with Levitra?
You must avoid grapefruit juice at the same time as it increases exposure to the drug. If you drink grapefruit you must avoid doing so at least 24 hours before administering Levitra

Is Levitra suitable for use in women?
No. Levitra and other erectile dysfunction medicines are only licensed for use in men.
Can I drive after taking Levitra?
Side effects of using Levitra may include blurred vision and dizziness so you should refrain from driving or operating machinery until you know that the drug does not affect you in any of these ways.
Is Levitra suitable for me?
