Product Description

  • The branded version of Tadalafil
  • For Male Erectile Dysfunction
  • Can be taken as and when required or on a daily basis
  • Not to be used with other erectile dysfunction treatments

Further Information

Erectile dysfunction can be due to many causes, for example, medical factors, age, stress, lifestyle, inadequate rest, or smoking and alcohol. In some of these circumstances, patients can make some changes to combat these effects. In other cases, treatment using medication may be considered. The frequency of your sexual activity will determine which strength of Cialis you should select as your preferred treatment.

Cialis is the older branded version of the drug Tadalafil and is used to treat erectile dysfunction. Cialis increases blood flow to the penis allowing for a more prolonged erection. Cialis belongs to the drug family Phosphodiesterase Type 5 Inhibitors.

Dosage

  • There are four strengths of Cialis: 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg
  • Low doses (2.5mg and 5mg) are suitable for taking continuously for patients that may need to combat ED symptoms twice or more a week. They come in pack sizes of 28 tablets (4-week supply) to allow patients to take them daily
  • 2.5 and 5mg: Take one tablet daily as directed
  • 10mg and 20mg come in pack sizes of 4 tablets and are licensed to be taken “as and when required” as opposed to continuously (daily)
  • 10mg and 20mg: Take one tablet 30 minutes before sexual activity. No more than one tablet in 36 hours.

How it works

Cialis belongs to a group of drugs known as pde5 inhibitors that work to relax blood vessels that in turn allow for easier blood flow to the penis giving the user a firmer and more prolonged erection. It should be noted that the effects of Cialis will only be beneficial under sexual stimulation. Cialis should begin to work between thirty and sixty minutes after taking it. However, if you have eaten a heavy meal or consumed alcohol before using Cialis, the effects of the drug to stimulate an erection may be delayed.

Cialis remains in the body for 36 hours and is typically taken as a single-dose tablet thirty to sixty minutes before sexual activity. The starting dose for Cialis is 10mg though this may be increased to 20mg if found too weak. On the other hand, if your erection lasts longer than you would like, you may adjust the dose and use less. You should not take more than one 10mg 0r 20mg tablet in any 36 hours.

If your preference is to take Erectile Dysfunction that will remain in your body so that you are always ready, Cialis is also available in daily dose tablets of 2.5mg and 5mg. This may be ideal for those who are sexually active twice or more a week and would prefer it to be in their system so they do not need to remember to take it each time they engage in sexual activity. Although the daily dose may seem low, as Cialis remains in the system for 36 hours this means it builds up to effective levels when taken continuously. If you opt for the daily tablet, you must not increase the dose beyond 5mg daily.

It is not recommended that you take Cialis 10mg or 20mg more than once daily. You should wait for at least 36 hours between Cialis doses unless you have opted for the 2.5mg or 5mg doses which can be taken daily.

Tadalafil vs Cialis

Tadalafil is the generic name of the branded drug Cialis. Cialis contains the active drug Tadalafil and it is for this reason, the effects of both drugs are the same. Patients will not receive subpar medication with Tadalafil, though they will save on cost as the patent for the drug is now open, meaning that the company that owns the name Cialis, Lilly, no longer has the sole license for manufacturing Tadalafil.

Cialis vs Sildenafil/Viagra

Cialis and Sildenafil (the generic name for Viagra), are part of the same family of drugs. However, the effects of Cialis can last longer in patients. Cialis can continue to help you achieve an erection for up to thirty-six hours after use; do not be concerned, as the erection itself will not last for this length of time. The thirty-six-hour window simply means that, with the aid of sexual stimulation, you will be able to get an erection without the need to take an extra tablet.

Possible Side Effects

As with all medications, there is a risk that you may experience some negative side effects when using Cialis. Often these are mild and will subside, however, if you experience any of the following then you should stop using Cialis and consult a medical professional immediately:

  • Chest pain
  • A painful erection that does not subside
  • Skin rash

The most common side effects of Cialis, occurring in up to one in ten people are:

  • Pain in the arms and legs
  • Headache
  • Back pain
  • Indigestion
  • Flushes
  • Congestion
  • Dizziness

Can Cialis affect fertility?

No, it has no detrimental effect on fertility.

How long will it take Cialis to work?

Cialis tablets should begin to work within 30-60 minutes. Sexual stimulation is needed for Tadalafil to be fully effective. If you eat a large meal before taking Tadalafil tablets, the effects may be delayed.

How long will the effects of Cialis last?

Cialis stays in the body for approximately 36 hours. You will still require sexual stimulation for the medicine to work.

Why must you leave 36 hours between doses of 10mg and 20mg but not for 2.5mg and 5mg?

The effects of Cialis remain in your body for up to 36 hours, daily dosing of 10mg and 20mg tablets would be detrimental. As the 2.5mg and 5mg are low doses they build up to effective levels when taken continuously and are therefore safe to take daily.

Can I drink alcohol with Cialis?

As with most erectile dysfunction (ED) medication, alcohol can increase the chances of hypotension (low blood pressure) while increasing your heart rate. It can cause excessive dizziness and fainting. Alcohol is also a contributing factor to erectile dysfunction.

Is there a cheaper generic version of Cialis tablets that has the same effect?

Yes, a generic version is sold as Tadalafil.

Do Cialis tablets contain lactose?

Yes. You must avoid Cialis if you have difficulty with lactose-containing products

Can Cialis tablets be used alongside other erectile dysfunction medication?

What strengths of Cialis are available?

Cialis tablets come in four strengths; 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg and 20mg.

Is Cialis legal to purchase online in the UK?

I take nitrates, can I still buy Cialis online?

Can I use Cialis if my partner is breastfeeding?

Can I use Cialis if my partner is pregnant?

No, the manufacturer advises avoiding it.

Can I drive after taking Cialis?

Side effects of using Cialis may include blurred vision and dizziness so you should refrain from driving or operating machinery until you know that the drug does not affect you in any of these ways.

Is Cialis suitable for me?

To determine if Cialis is the right drug to help with your erectile dysfunction, you will need to answer a few simple health-related questions. If your consultant deems Cialis to be unsuitable, then they will endeavour to offer alternative options and advice. For many, the root cause of ED is not strictly physical. Alcohol consumption, stress and tiredness can also affect your ability to get and maintain an erection.
